How to Plan the Perfect Couples’ Game Night
Couples game nights are not a new concept, but is experiencing a resurgence as a trend. As single people begin to find partners, get married and establish families, they begin to understand the value in forming relationships with other couples who they share common interests with. Couples game nights are a great way to connect with other couples and form lasting relationships with them. Hosting a fun game night will take some work, but will be relatively simple to pull off if you know exactly what to do.
A great game night includes the following elements: great food, great drinks, great space, great guest and great games! If you focus on creating a party that includes these elements, your party will be the talk of the town for all of the right reasons.
Great Food: All good parties require good food for your guests, especially in the case of a game night where the party will most like be held around dinner time. The menu for your party should take into consideration the dietary needs of your guests. Will you have guests who’ll eat just about anything, or will you have guests that have special diets like, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc.? You’ll want to have options available for all of your guests. You could also make the game night a potluck and ask each guest to bring a dish. This way, there will be something that every guest can eat.
Great Drinks: Drinks are a staple a most parties. It’s very important that the drink options you provide can accommodate each guest. You should have both alcoholic and alcoholic options for your guests. Also, keep the drinks simple enough that your guests are able to grab their own drinks. As the host, you don’t want to miss out on all the fun because you decided to make your world famous, top-secret magical margaritas and you have to keep preparing them for your guests. If you do want to make those margaritas, make as much as you can in advance, and be sure that you put them in pitchers so your guests can serve themselves. And be sure to have plenty of ice available!
Great Space: Make sure that your space can comfortably hold the number of people you plan to invite. You should have a seat for each person attending your party, and a few extra chairs just to be safe. Set up your food and drinks in a location that is accessible to all your guests but will not interrupt game play. Most importantly, make sure your space is set up in such a way that all of your guests will be able to see and hear what is going on. You want everyone to feel included in the fun.
Great Guests: You should invite couples that you enjoy and/or would like to get to know better. There is nothing awkward than inviting people to your home who you don’t particularly enjoy being around or who always have a lot of drama going on. Also, when inviting couples, it’s best to give them 3 to 4 weeks notice so that they can make any necessary accommodations to be in attendance at your party. Online invitation services like Evite and Punchbowl are perfect for this type of party.
Great Games: The most important element of any game night is the games. When selecting games to play, you must keep in mind the number of guests you’ll have and how comfortable they’ll be participating in each game. For example, you may not want to play a game like Twister because your guest may not be physically able to participate. You don’t want to alienate any of your guests, so make sure the games you select are appropriate for your group of guests. You could also ask guests to bring their favorite games to ensure everyone’s interests are represents.
